1. Brush your teeth twice a day
Brushing twice a day prevents bad breath, improves gum health but most importantly keeps your teeth whiter. When you brush twice a day, you can help remove some of the pigments from the food and drinks that have not been fully absorbed by your teeth.
If you brush with a whitening toothpaste, you can give your teeth an even greater chance of avoiding discoloration which makes our Day & Night Toothpaste a great addition to your routine. Our Day Toothpaste contains a unique micro-shield wax which forms a protective barrier over your teeth to defend against stains throughout the day. Our Night Toothpaste contains natural charcoal to gently buff away surface stains over time.
2. Brush the right way
The way you use your toothbrush is just as important. You should take your time (at least 2 minutes), brushing in a mild, circular motion which will help to remove plaque.
3. Brush with the correct toothbrush
It’s best to use a brush with soft bristles and using correctly it should last two to three months. After this time, you will know when it's ready to be replaced when you notice the bristles bending, not replacing regularly can cause injury to the teeth and gums.
4. Floss once a day
Flossing is regularly neglected but is important to add to your oral routine. Adding flossing to your daily routine will help make teeth look brighter by removing plaque and excess food particles that your toothbrush may not reach.
5. Add Mouthwash
Mouthwash is a necessary addition to every oral care routine. Mouthwash will help remove any leftover plaque after brushing and flossing as well as tame bad breath. Our HiSmile Coconut Mouthwash utilises the traditional method of oil pulling which helps to flush out toxins and bacteria from the mouth which effectively reduces yellowing plaque.
6. Up your water intake
Water is perfect for keeping your teeth clean. With every sip, it washes away any left over food and cavity-causing bacteria. Fluoride in the water also helps coat your teeth to fight against the acids that eat away at your enamel and reverses the impact of tooth decay.
7. Limit sugary and acidic foods
Ultimately, sugar converts into acid in the mouth, which can then erode the enamel of your teeth. These acids are what lead to cavities. Acidic fruits, teas and coffee can also wear down tooth enamel. It’s almost impossible to avoid these foods altogether but limiting where possible and using a great toothpaste that kills the cavity causing bacteria will help a lot. The HiSmile Toothpaste utilizes Sodium Bicarbonate, Xylitol and Propolis alongside natural ingredients like Aloe Vera and Calcium Carbonate to kill or dislodge the buildup of plaque on your teeth that causes staining and bad breath.
8. Avoid using your teeth for anything other than chewing food.
If you use them to chew ice, remove bottle tops or rip open packaging, you can cause permanent damage to your teeth, potentially putting small cracks in the enamel, chipping or even breaking your teeth.
It is important to maintain a consistent and in depth oral care routine to keep your teeth healthy and avoid other concerns such as tooth sensitivity. Learn more about the causes as well as treatment and prevention of tooth sensitivity here.
